Peel Walker Partner & Staff Profiles

Paul Nutton, FCA - Partner
Paul is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Paul started his accountancy career as an accounts clerk at Peel Walker in the 1970’s and was the first student Peel Walker trained. After qualifying he moved to a “big 4” firm and spent a number of years working for them in South Africa. On his return to the UK, Paul spent time working as a manager then partner at a local firm in Huddersfield, before moving back to Peel Walker as a partner in 2003.  

Paul has a wealth of experience in general practice work and has also undertaken many specialist deals and activities during his career. He is kept busy advising clients on accountancy and taxation matters, as well as heading up a number of audit assignments. He has a number of specialist sector clients, including charities, pension schemes, clubs and GP practices.

In his spare time, Paul enjoys playing table tennis, watching football and other sports.


Sharon Cousen, BSc (Hons), FCA - Partner
Sharon is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

She started her career in accountancy in the 1980’s after gaining a degree in physics at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Initially she trained at a small firm in her native Lancashire before moving to Yorkshire where she qualified and gained many years experience in accounting and auditing at local firms in Huddersfield. She joined Peel Walker as a partner in 2007.

Sharon covers most aspects of general practice work, including accounts, audit, company secretarial and taxation. She enjoys meeting clients and learning about their businesses. In addition to her client work, Sharon is also responsible for the practice accounts and administration.

When not busy working Sharon enjoys walking in the lovely Yorkshire countryside, listening to early music and folk music performed by her friends and family, astronomy and studying social history.


Don Sharp, MAAT, ATT – Tax Manager
Don is a Member of both the Association of Accounting Technicians and the Association of Taxation Technicians.

Don joined Peel Walker in 1990 and is one of the longest serving members of staff. Initially Don worked in the accounts department, but over the years developed a preference for taxation work. He has specialised in tax for a number of years now and heads up our busy tax department, advising on all aspects of business and personal taxation. Don has a wealth of tax and VAT knowledge and is always in demand by clients and staff.

In his free time Don loves to spend time walking and training his dog and is also a keen horse rider.

Robert Keighley – Accounts & Audit Manager
Robert joined Peel Walker in 1988 and is the longest serving staff member.

Robert assists Martin with the management of our larger businesses section. In addition to carrying out several annual audits, Robert prepares accounts and corporation tax returns for numerous companies and also specialises in specialist sector clients including charities, pension schemes and clubs.

When not busy at work, Robert enjoys socialising with friends and is a keen follower of horse racing. He is also an avid amateur rugby league fan and the treasurer for the Boothtown Terriers. Robert also likes walking and often clocks up the miles walking to and from the office.


Claire Allworthy, AAT – Accounts Senior
Claire is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians.

Claire joined Peel Walker in 2006, prior to which she carried out various administrative roles, primarily in the charity sector.

Claire works in our busy accounts department, preparing accounts for both company and unincorporated clients. She has an excellent knowledge of Sage 50 and assists many clients with management accounts and general bookkeeping.

Outside of work, Claire loves to be out and about walking and escapes to the Scottish Isles for holidays. She is also a keen gardener and can occasionally be spotted knee deep in mud at music festivals.


Anne Pickles – Payroll Manager
Anne joined Peel Walker in 1994 in a secretarial role, but later moved to the technical team.

Anne now runs our busy payroll bureau, preparing weekly and monthly payrolls for an ever-increasing number of businesses.

Outside of work Anne is a member of the fundraising team for Southgate Methodist Church. She is also kept busy organising events for the Elland Tangent Club and enjoys yoga, walking and socialising with friends.


Katherine Walker – Reception Manager
Katherine joined Peel Walker in 2004 to assist on the reception desk.
Over the years she has taken on an increasing number of duties and is now responsible for numerous tasks which allow the office to run smoothly, including running the reception function, typing, archiving, credit control, stationery and much more. She provides a friendly and professional welcome to all clients and visitors.
Katherine is a church steward at Southgate Methodist Church, where she also sings in the choir and heads up the fundraising team with Anne. She also enjoys walking and socialising with friends.

Lindsey Kershaw, MAAT – Tax Senior
Lindsey is a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians.

Lindsey joined Peel Walker in 2010, prior to which she spent 25 years working in the tax department of a local firm in Huddersfield.

She works with Don and Claire in our tax department, preparing tax returns and related work for our clients. Lindsey also has responsibility for completing P11d forms for clients.

When not at work, Lindsey enjoys the theatre and also keeps busy running after her children and taking them to dancing and singing competitions.


Claire Toner, MAAT – Tax Senior
Claire is a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians.

Claire started her career as a ledger clerk in industry before joining Peel Walker in 2006, working initially in the accountancy team. After developing a preference for tax work, Claire transferred to the tax team in 2010, where she works alongside Don and Lindsey preparing personal tax returns and providing personal tax advice. Claire also prepares VAT returns for some clients and runs the payroll bureau when Anne is out of the office.

Outside of work, Claire likes to keep fit using zumba, yoga and running. She also enjoys exploring new and old places with her children, going to the cinema and spending time with her family and friends.


Martin Armitage, FCCA – Accounts & Audit Manager

Martin is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Martin started his career in 1990 at a small local firm in Huddersfield after taking a Foundation Course in Accountancy at Huddersfield Polytechnic. He gained his accountancy qualification in 1996, having achieved the highest mark award in his second stage taxation paper on the way. Martin continued to work at small local practices followed by a brief spell in industry, gaining a wealth of experience, before joining Peel Walker in 2005.

Martin manages our larger businesses section together with Robert. He has a good working knowledge of various computerized accounting packages, primarily Sage 50 and has assisted clients with the set up and running of these. Martin provides assistance to the partners in serving the general practice needs of our larger clients on a variety of day-to-day accounting and tax issues, both in the office and at clients’ premises. In addition, Martin carries out company audits and assists clients in various business sectors with regular management accounts, preparing cash flows and business plans.

Martin enjoys watching football and rugby, is also interested in music and is trying to learn the bass guitar in his spare time.


Jennifer Sykes ACCA

Jennifer is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Jennifer started her career in 1995, training at small local firms and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2001. She continued to gain experience in practice before moving to work as an accountant in industry in 2004, where she gained many business skills. She joined Peel Walker as a manager in 2018.

Jennifer works part time and contributes to the management of our small business team, preparing accounts and tax returns for numerous clients. She has an excellent knowledge of Sage 50 and other accounting packages and assists many clients with management accounts, preparing cash flows and general bookkeeping. She also assists with payroll and VAT work and helps to train our more junior staff members.

Outside of work, Jennifer likes to keep fit by walking, running, swimming and cycling, that is when she is not running after her young children, taking them to various sporting activities.


Elizabeth Graydon, ACCA- Accounts
Lizzie is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Lizzie joined Peel Walker in 2006 and works in the accounting team. Lizzie spends some of her time providing bookkeeping services for clients. She also prepares accounts, VAT returns and payrolls in the office and assists on our audit assignments.

When not working or studying, Lizzie likes to spend time playing with her young sons.


Imogen Hellens, - Accounts
Imogen joined Peel Walker in 2015 and works in the accounting team. She joined us as an apprentice and is working towards gaining an AAT qualification initially, but hopes to continue her training towards becoming a Chartered Accountant in future years.

Imogen enjoys the challenges of our busy accounts office and assists with preparing accounts and VAT returns. She is also part of the team providing audit services to our clients.

Outside of work Imogen enjoys relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family.


Victoria Ostrowski, - Accounts
Victoria joined Peel Walker in 2018 and works in the accounting team. She has worked in banking for 14 years but due to redundancy from her role as Bank Manager she has decided to retrain as an accountant. She is currently working part time and studying the AAT qualification but aspires to become a Chartered Accountant in the future.
Victoria is embracing her change of career and enjoys the responsibilities of preparing the accounts for our clients.
Outside of work, Victoria loves taking her children on adventures and spending quality time with her family. She is keen on keeping fit by running and attending various fitness classes to compensate for her other passion of baking. Victoria is also a treasurer for the local group, Elland and District Partnership and is often seen supporting the community of Elland.
